Scratch-Resistant Water-Based Paint

‘i-LUX DuroX’ Launched

Samhwa Paint Ind. Co., Ltd. has obtained and publicly disclosed a patent for a “matte paint composition with scratch resistance.”

Recent interior design trends favor the creation of calm, sophisticated spaces. The paint most commonly used to achieve this is low-gloss, matte water-based paint. However, matte water-based paint is prone to everyday scratches and has the drawback of being difficult to clean when soiled by food and other substances.

Samhwa Paint has invented a new paint manufacturing method that retains the advantages of matte water-based paint while delivering excellent scratch resistance, abrasion resistance, and washability based on outstanding durability.

The patent is characterized by the use of a special acrylic emulsion and inorganic resin in matte water-based paint as functional raw materials that form a high-strength coating film, thereby reducing surface friction. Compared to ordinary matte water-based paint, it suffers less coating film damage from physical impact and allows for easier removal of contaminants.

Last year, Samhwa Paint used this technology to fully launch its eco-friendly water-based paint ‘i-LUX DuroX.’ ‘i-LUX DuroX’ offers excellent performance against scratches, abrasion, and staining, and is an eco-friendly product that has been verified for antibacterial and anti-mold performance and has received an eco-friendly certification mark. In particular, it can be used with peace of mind without concerns over volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or the four major heavy metals, and there is no need to worry about sick house syndrome.

When applied to spaces prone to wall damage, the product keeps interior spaces clean for a long time, making it suitable for homes with children or pets, high-traffic spaces such as multi-use facilities, and food factories and medical facilities where hygiene is important.

A Samhwa Paint official said, “Even in harsh environments that affect buildings, it delivers sufficient durability, extending building lifespan while minimizing maintenance costs,” adding, “With both high functionality and eco-friendliness secured, we expect it to receive a strong response in the interior design field.”
