Color Universal Design Applied

Samhwa Paint Co., Ltd. applied Color Universal Design for the visually impaired at the Seongbuk Welfare Center for the Visually Impaired and provided eco-friendly paint and painting services.

Samhwa Paint designed the Color Universal Design so that visually impaired people could more easily distinguish between floors and doorways, while maintaining the unique concept of each floor at the Seongbuk Welfare Center for the Visually Impaired. In particular, the company improved the surrounding environment by applying accent colors to each floor and inserting numeric graphics so that visually impaired people could more easily recognize the information.

The paint applied in the Color Universal Design is Samhwa Paint's ‘I-Saenggak’ series, an architectural water-based paint. This product line is a high-quality paint that can be used with peace of mind even in places with children, and it is an eco-friendly product that has obtained certifications such as the Environmental Label Certification.

Color Universal Design (CUD) is a color design that considers the needs of the visually impaired and those with color vision deficiency so they can use products, buildings, and services safely and conveniently. Color Universal Design is a form of color welfare that helps people clearly and intuitively recognize key information distinguished by color.

Contrary to common belief, there are more people in Korea with visual field defects or low vision than those with total blindness, who cannot see at all. Samhwa Paint is committed to supporting Color Universal Design so that these visually impaired people can enjoy a life equal to that of the sighted.

Lee Sang-hee, head of Samhwa Paint's Color Design Center, said, “Through Color Universal Design, we hope that both people with and without disabilities will be equally considered,” adding, “Samhwa Paint is actively working to realize welfare for the visually impaired, including by creating a Color Universal Design guide so that visually impaired people can enjoy a more comfortable and safe life.”
