Hands-On Removal of Ecosystem-Disturbing Plants
Hyundai Elevator has launched biodiversity conservation activities to preserve the natural environment of Binaeseom in Chungju.
On June 12, some 30 Hyundai Elevator executives and employees voluntarily gathered for a volunteer service in the Binaeseom area, a nationally designated inland wetland protection zone. Because the activity took place during weekday working hours, Hyundai Elevator guaranteed it as paid leave to encourage employee participation. Prior to the service, Hyundai Elevator also conducted thorough advance training. After acquiring background knowledge through environmental education, the employees personally removed ecosystem-disturbing plants such as cheatgrass and Japanese hop that disrupt the ecosystem. In addition, in line with this year's official 'Environment Day' theme of combating plastic pollution, they carried out environmental clean-up activities including waste collection and separate disposal. This initiative is part of the company's ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) management efforts. Hyundai Elevator continues to pursue a range of biodiversity conservation activities, including a fishing tournament held on June 19 in the Chungjuho Lake area to eradicate invasive fish species (bass and bluegill).
A Hyundai Elevator official said, "Although these are small actions, we found them rewarding knowing they help the local environment," adding, "We will actively cooperate to help keep the local ecosystem healthy."
Meanwhile, Hyundai Elevator has been focusing on strengthening its ESG capabilities since relocating its headquarters to Chungju in 2022. As a result, it received an A grade in the '2024 ESG Evaluation' last year, up one notch from the previous year, and also earned the highest score among its global competitors in the 'Global ESG Evaluation' by S&P, the world's leading U.S. credit rating agency.
