Samhwa Paint holds signing ceremony
Made from decomposable plastic material

On January 22, Samhwa Paints & Chemicals Co., Ltd. signed a ‘Biodegradable Eco-friendly Paint Container Development Agreement’ together with SK TBM Geostone Co., Ltd.—SKC’s investment company for the biodegradable LIMEX material business—and circular plastic manufacturer P&B Co., Ltd.
On that day, the three companies agreed to actively cooperate on △applying and selling eco-friendly paint containers, △developing and supplying eco-friendly raw materials optimized for paint containers, and △developing and manufacturing paint containers.
The biodegradable paint container introduced through this agreement possesses inherent biodegradable properties, giving it the advantage of decomposing more quickly than the oxo-biodegradable method, which relies on added decomposition accelerators to break down.
When landfilled, the biodegradable paint container decomposes through the action of microorganisms, heat, and moisture, breaking down more than 90% within six months under composting conditions. The container is made from a biodegradable material that combines PBAT (Polybutylene Adipate Terephthalate) with natural limestone.
Samhwa Paint plans to first apply the biodegradable container to its high-quality water-based paint ‘iLux’ series. ‘iLux’ boasts eco-friendliness that allows it to be used with peace of mind even in spaces where children are present. The product is an eco-friendly product that has obtained Eco-Label certification. A Samhwa Paint official said, “We are collaborating with various fields to build a sustainable society and minimize environmental pollution caused by plastic waste,” adding, “We plan to actively support the eco-friendly consumption that consumers pursue.”
Meanwhile, as part of its ESG management, Samhwa Paint has developed and launched a range of eco-friendly products, including water-based, bio, and recycled paints.
