Samhwa Paint Applies
'Biroad Cool' at Gongju Medical Center
Samhwa Paint Ind. Co., Ltd. (President & CEO Oh Jin-soo) donated road/floor heat-shielding paint to the screening clinic at Chungcheongnam-do Gongju Medical Center, the largest public medical facility in the Gongju area, on August 23.
This donation was carried out as part of community contribution efforts in the Gongju area, where Samhwa Paint's powder coating and PCM coating production plants are located. For the medical staff sweating in protective suits and the visitors waiting for treatment in the sweltering heat, Samhwa Paint applied its 'Biroad Cool' heat-shielding paint to the 736㎡ parking lot where the screening clinic is located within Gongju Medical Center.
Biroad Cool is a paint that uses special pigments to reflect infrared rays, preventing temperature rises on asphalt or concrete floors. According to test results from the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL), Biroad Cool's infrared reflectance was 61.7%, higher than that of ordinary paint (33.7%). Surface temperatures were also measured to be up to 18.8 degrees lower compared to uncoated ordinary asphalt and concrete roads.
In addition to heat shielding, Biroad Cool also features a non-slip function that prevents slipping, allowing local residents to use the screening clinic more safely.
An official from Gongju Medical Center said, "With COVID-19 not expected to end easily, we were very concerned that the medical staff and visitors might suffer heat-related illnesses during every intense heat wave. We hope that Samhwa Paint's heat-shielding coating will allow citizens to use the screening clinic comfortably. If the screening clinic is relocated or its operation is terminated, we plan to use it as a parking lot with a cooling effect."
Beyond this paint donation, Samhwa Paint has been carrying out various community contribution activities—such as paint sponsorship and environmental cleanup—as a corporate supporter of the Baekje World Cultural Heritage since 2017, in order to promote cultural development in the Gongju area.
