IKEA Korea
Sustainability Experience Pop-up
IKEA Korea, the home furnishing retailer, is extending the run of ‘IKEA Lab,’ its sustainability experience pop-up in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, through this coming September. Having designated fiscal year 2021 as its ‘Year of Sustainability,’ IKEA Korea opened the IKEA Lab pop-up space in November of last year to meet more people in the heart of the city and inspire them toward a healthy future for both the home and the planet.
Housed in a standalone two-story, 914-sq-m building, IKEA Lab was designed to let visitors encounter new IKEA experiences: the IKEA Shop, where you can purchase on-site the IKEA home furnishing products that support sustainable living in a more accessible downtown location; the IKEA Food Lab, which showcases an exclusive menu made up of healthy food; and Korea’s first-ever interior design service. In addition, through exhibitions that highlight eco-friendly materials and lifestyle habits as well as a variety of workshops, the space actively shares inspiration for building a sustainable future.
The decision to extend IKEA Lab’s operation was made to strengthen closer communication with the MZ generation. Seongsu-dong, where IKEA Lab is located, is an area densely populated by a curious young generation full of entrepreneurial spirit. By extending IKEA Lab’s run, IKEA Korea plans to try out innovative experiences with the MZ generation and shape a healthy planet and a new IKEA future.
Indeed, a survey of some 4,000 IKEA Lab visitors found that more than 88% of them were customers in their 20s and 30s. In addition, 90% said IKEA Lab helped them get to know IKEA better, and 86% said it was an opportunity to learn more about sustainability—confirming an enthusiastic consumer response to IKEA Lab as a space for experiencing IKEA and sustainability.
