Samsung Electronics, Q1 Domestic
Wind-Free Air Conditioners Double Year-on-Year
As Energy Efficiency Grade 1 Wind-Free air conditioners gained popularity, Samsung Electronics' share of the domestic air conditioner market rose sharply in the first quarter. According to market research firm GfK, Samsung Electronics recorded a 48.6% share of the domestic air conditioner market in the first quarter.
Samsung Electronics posted a 43.6% share of the domestic air conditioner market in 2013, and has consistently maintained a high share in the 40% range, with 42.7% in 2016, 45.5% in 2017, 43.0% in 2018, 37.6% in 2019, 40.4% in 2020, 41.7% in 2021, and 41.0% in 2022.
In particular, in the first quarter of this year, the sales proportion of Samsung Electronics' Energy Efficiency Grade 1 Wind-Free air conditioners doubled compared to the previous year. Even amid an overall contraction in demand for home appliance purchases due to the recent economic downturn, this result reflects an increasingly pronounced trend of customers preferring models with high energy efficiency.
This year as well, Samsung Electronics is offering Wind-Free air conditioners with reduced energy consumption, so customers can use them without worrying about electricity bills.
Following stand-type, wall-mounted, and residential system air conditioners, in April this year Samsung Electronics also launched the 'BESPOKE Wind-Free Air Conditioner WindowFit,' the first window-type air conditioner to feature Wind-Free cooling, completing its entire air conditioner lineup with Wind-Free technology and broadening the range of choices for customers.
All models of the 2023 BESPOKE Wind-Free Air Conditioner Gallery are Energy Efficiency Grade 1–2 products, and all residential Wind-Free system air conditioner models received Energy Efficiency Grade 1. The window-type Wind-Free Air Conditioner WindowFit also earned Energy Efficiency Grade 1.
For the Wind-Free Air Conditioner Gallery, Samsung Electronics has also released an energy-specialized model whose cooling efficiency is 10% higher than the minimum standard for Energy Efficiency Grade 1. When using Wind-Free cooling, Samsung Electronics' Wind-Free air conditioners can save up to 90% of power consumption compared to MAX cooling. In addition, using the 'AI Energy Saving Mode' in SmartThings Energy can further reduce energy consumption by 20%, greatly easing the burden of electricity bills.
Samsung Electronics is also strengthening its eco-friendly efforts. This year, following the existing Wind-Free Gallery and Wind-Free Classic models, it has expanded the eco-friendly R32 refrigerant to the Wind-Free Slim, Wind-Free wall-mounted, and Wind-Free Air Conditioner WindowFit models, and has applied the Solar Cell Remote, which requires no disposable batteries, to the Wind-Free Classic model as well as the existing Wind-Free Gallery model. In addition, water-washable filters have reduced concerns about disposable filter waste.
