Samhwa Paints' 1-hour solvent-free epoxy intumescent fire-resistant coating

Blocks and delays structural deformation from high heat in the event of a fire

Samhwa Paints Ind. Co., Ltd., a leading player in Korea's architectural coatings market, announced that it has newly developed 'FlameCheck EXP-120 (for columns and beams),' a 1-hour solvent-free epoxy intumescent fire-resistant coating, and has obtained 'Building Material Quality Certification' from the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.

Low-carbon steel, commonly used in steel-frame structures, begins to collapse when high heat reduces the steel's load-bearing capacity by more than 60%. For this reason, building codes require major structural elements to withstand high heat for 1 to 3 hours depending on the building's floor level and height.

'FlameCheck EXP-120' is a high-performance epoxy intumescent fire-resistant coating designed to prevent disasters by blocking and delaying the deformation of structures caused by high heat in the event of a fire, and it has been developed to deliver sufficient fire-resistance performance even with a thin coating film of 2.45 mm.

This product is one that demonstrates Samhwa Paints' outstanding technical capabilities, as reducing the coating film thickness while maintaining fire-resistance performance requires advanced technology. Such a thinner coating film greatly helps ensure cost efficiency by shortening working time and reducing material use.

With the development of this product, Samhwa Paints now offers a complete lineup of solvent-free epoxy intumescent fire-resistant coatings for 1-hour, 2-hour, and 3-hour applications.

Samhwa Paints' solvent-free epoxy intumescent fire-resistant coating 'FlameCheck' generates almost no dust during application and, thanks to its strong adhesion, can be easily applied even to steel-frame structures. In addition, it is a highly durable and highly weather-resistant product that shows no peeling or cracking even in outdoor environments, maintaining its fire-resistance performance over the long term, and it is environmentally friendly, generating fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than conventional oil-based acrylic fire-resistant coatings.

A Samhwa Paints official said, "This newly developed product not only delivers powerful fire-resistance performance of at least 1 hour, which meets the building code criteria, but also addresses the problems that arise before and after construction," adding, "We expect this product to be well received throughout the steel-frame construction industry."
