Wood University, Korea's leading educational institution for training timber-construction professionals, is now recruiting participants for its "21st WBI Program (Wood Building Inspection — a specialized course in the design, construction, and supervision of multi-family timber housing)," sponsored by Canada Wood and the Korea Wood Frame Building Association.
Graduates of the Wood University program are granted the privilege of taking part in the on-site timber-construction technical training held in Canada by Canada Wood.
The 21st WBI Program provides instruction based on domestic and international laws and standards related to timber construction, so that participants can build the expert knowledge in the design, construction, and supervision of timber construction — including light-frame wood construction — needed to serve as Korea's top professionals. A certificate of completion is issued at the end of the course. The tuition is 1.87 million won (including materials and VAT), and the cost of the overseas training is billed separately to applicants only (scheduled for the end of June this year).
The course runs from April 4 to August 8, with classes held for three hours every Saturday (9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.). The program is intended for employees of architecture firms, timber-construction companies, construction-related companies, and structural-engineering firms; professors and students in university architecture departments; public officials involved in construction; and anyone interested in timber construction.
The main topics of instruction include: △timber-construction laws and an introduction to construction supervision △basic design △timber-construction materials △general timber-construction practices △light-frame wood construction — lateral bracing wall lines, girders and headers, floor joists, wall framing, roof and ceiling joists, sheathing, connection hardware, fire-resistant structures, sound-insulation structures, and considerations for shrinkage △roof finishing △exterior wall finishing △Rain Screen △interior finishing △emergency exits, and more.
