Renovations at the memorial hall including windows and doors, flooring, and interior film
Patriotic community-contribution activities leveraging business capabilities to continue in the future
LG Hausys, together with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, has completed renovation work on the ‘Uiam Son Byong-hi Memorial Hall’ as part of its support activities to renovate memorial facilities for national patriots.
In connection with this, LG Hausys held a ceremony on the 14th to mark the completion of the facility improvements at the ‘Uiam Son Byong-hi Memorial Hall,’ located in Bugi-myeon, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do. The ceremony was attended by Son Yoon, chairman of the Memorial Association for Patriot Uiam Son Byong-hi; Han Beom-deok, mayor of Cheongju; Lee Nam-il, director of the Daejeon Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs; and Kang Gye-woong, CEO of LG Hausys, among others.
Patriot Uiam Son Byong-hi was one of the 33 national representatives who led the Declaration of Independence ceremony and stood at the center of the March 1st Independence Movement. Believing that fostering the nation’s capabilities was the most urgent priority, Son Byong-hi acquired Boseong School and Dongdeok School and carried out an education-centered independence movement.
To honor these achievements, the government posthumously awarded him the Republic of Korea Medal of the Order of Merit for National Foundation in 1962, and last year he was named an ‘Independence Activist of March 2019,’ jointly selected by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, the Heritage of Korean Independence, and the Independence Hall of Korea.
The Uiam Son Byong-hi Memorial Hall exhibits records of Son Byong-hi’s life and his relics, along with materials on Cheongju’s independence movement and the history of Korea’s March 1st Independence Movement. Since its opening in 2000, however, facilities such as the entrance and exhibition rooms had become considerably worn.
In response, LG Hausys carried out the renovation work by providing its windows and doors, flooring, interior film, and other products for the memorial hall’s entrance and exhibition rooms. It also undertook facility improvements such as replacing electrical wiring and aging lighting, thereby helping visitors enjoy the memorial hall in a more pleasant environment.
At the facility-improvement completion ceremony that day, Son Yoon, chairman of the Memorial Association for Patriot Uiam Son Byong-hi, expressed his gratitude, saying, “Through the newly refurbished memorial hall made possible by the support of LG Hausys and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, we will strive even harder to pass on Son Byong-hi’s noble spirit of independence to future generations.”
LG Hausys CEO Kang Gye-woong said, “As a company with a plant in Cheongju, we consider it an honor to be able to lend even a small amount of support to improving the facilities of a memorial hall honoring Son Byong-hi, an independence activist who represents Cheongju,” adding, “As a leading domestic building-materials company, we will continue to carry out patriotic community-contribution activities that leverage our business capabilities.”
Meanwhile, LG Hausys has completed renovation work on a total of 10 memorial facilities since 2015, and has supported improvements to the living environments of 28 persons of national merit, including descendants of independence patriots and Korean War veterans.
