EAGON Windows Participates in the ‘2018 Hanok Expo’

EAGON Windows took part in the ‘2018 Hanok Expo,’ where visitors could view everything from traditional hanok to modern architecture in one place, and presented its Korean-style system window and door (traditional window) line ‘Yedam Chang.’

At the ‘2018 Hanok Expo,’ held at the SETEC exhibition hall from May 31 to June 3, EAGON Windows showcased a variety of products offering a glimpse into the future of hanok culture, including traditional windows and doors with enhanced insulation performance achieved by applying SUPER vacuum glass, as well as Korean-style system storm windows used in the maintenance and repair of cultural properties.

Its featured products included: △ the ‘KSS 150 LS,’ a cultural-property interior window that faithfully preserves the natural wood texture of traditional windows while allowing interior storm-window installation without replacing the existing window—the only such product in Korea to be recognized by the Cultural Heritage Administration; △ the ‘KDS 85,’ a traditional-style solid-wood door that maximizes traditional beauty; △ the ‘WDS 90,’ a premium wooden entrance door that uses specially treated wood to prevent warping caused by direct sunlight or water; and △ traditional windows such as the ‘lift-up window (deureoyeolgae-chang)’ that preserve the distinctive characteristics of the hanok while implementing opening-and-closing methods that cause no inconvenience in modern residential life.

In particular, at this expo EAGON Windows also unveiled the ‘KWS 90 SH,’ a traditional-style casement window fitted with ‘SUPER vacuum glass,’ an ultra-insulating glass. Previously, due to the nature of Korean-style windows, 43 mm-thick triple glazing could not be applied, making it difficult to meet Grade 1 insulation performance. However, installing 27 mm-thick SUPER vacuum glass in a Korean-style system window blocks the flow of interior and exterior air one additional time, delivering insulation and sound-insulation performance on par with concrete. Grade 1 insulation performance is unique among domestic Korean-style windows.

To reinforce the security and insulation performance of windows—a vulnerable part of the hanok—EAGON Windows has been researching and developing Korean-style system windows for more than a decade, and has produced its Korean-style system window ‘Yedam Chang (窓)’ since 2011. Yedam Chang combines the beauty of traditional windows with system-window technology to greatly improve insulation and airtightness performance; it reinforces the weak security features of conventional hanok with multi-point locking devices and reproduces even such details as traditional lattice and door-handle designs.
