Samhwa Paint & Hoban Construction

Contributing to Resource Circulation, ESG Management

Samhwa Paints Ind. Co., Ltd. announced that, together with Hoban Construction Co., Ltd., it has developed building paint made from recycled materials utilizing ferronickel slag, and has filed a patent application for an “eco-friendly interior coating composition applying ferronickel slag.”

Samhwa Paint and Hoban Construction jointly conducted research and development on recycling-based paint in order to preserve the environment through recycled resources and to strengthen ESG management, thereby promoting sustainable production and consumption for future generations.

Ferronickel slag (FNS) is a byproduct generated during the production of ferronickel, the main raw material for stainless steel. With its excellent physical and chemical properties, it is an eco-friendly resource that can replace concrete admixtures, aggregates for concrete, and more.

Using this ferronickel slag (FNS) as a raw material, Samhwa Paint has developed the interior and exterior water-based paints “Ansim Doctor Water-Based Interior Grade 1 (FNS)” and “Inplus Water-Based Silicone (FNS).” These products are characterized by higher hiding power compared to existing product lines.

“Ansim Doctor Water-Based Interior Grade 1 (FNS)” is an antiviral product containing porous antiviral inorganic substances—an interior paint with low odor and antibacterial and antifungal functions. “Inplus Water-Based Silicone (FNS)” is an exterior paint that, thanks to the cross-linking properties of silicone coatings, offers excellent outdoor weather resistance, crack resistance, stain resistance, and breathability, making it outstanding for long-term protection of buildings. The products have passed tests such as KSM6010 and KSF 4936 by the Korea Testing & Research Institute, earning recognition for their functionality and performance.

A Samhwa Paint official stated, “We have also completed the development of flooring products applying ferronickel slag and are preparing to file a patent application,” adding, “We plan to continue devoting ourselves to developing recycled products and to lead the domestic eco-friendly building materials market going forward.”
