Installs Solar Power Generation System

Lotte E&C is conducting joint research with Lotte Chemical, Absco, Standard Energy and others in order to respond to the mandatory building zero-energy certification that takes effect this year and to enhance the usability of the electricity generated within buildings.

Lotte E&C has built a pilot installation of a Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system and a Vanadium Ion Battery Energy Storage System (VIB ESS) that stores the energy generated by it at the Lotte E&C headquarters building located in Jamwon-dong, Seoul, and is carrying out performance evaluations.

The Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system is installed on the exterior walls of a building, simultaneously performing the functions of power generation and building exterior cladding. Because it requires no separate installation area, it is highly applicable to urban buildings that lack construction space.

Lotte E&C is pursuing research with Absco, a solar module specialist, to secure the durability of solar modules and improve construction efficiency. In the Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system, the solar modules are installed using the 'GtoS (glass-to-steel-plate bonding) method.' Unlike the GtoG (Glass to Glass: double-sided glass bonding) method used for ordinary solar modules, the front is made of glass and the rear of steel plate, reducing the weight.

In addition, because solar film materials are prone to discoloration and corrosion due to external factors such as moisture penetration, POE (Polyolefin Elastomer), which has strong durability, was used. Lotte E&C is collaborating with the Lotte Chemical Basic Chemicals Research Institute to simultaneously carry out characteristic analysis and optimization research on POE raw materials in order to improve the efficiency of the BIPV bonding process.

Lotte E&C is conducting joint research with the battery specialist Standard Energy on the Vanadium Ion Battery Energy Storage System (VIB ESS) linked to the Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) system. Because the Vanadium Ion Battery developed by Standard Energy uses a water-based electrolyte, it fundamentally eliminates the risk of ignition, and it boasts a long battery life and high charging efficiency. In addition, the Energy Tile (winner of a 2025 CES Innovation Award), which is designed to make the Vanadium Ion Battery in a tile form that can be attached indoors, was also included in this demonstration.
