Wood University, Korea's premier educational institution for training experts in timber construction, is recruiting 30 students for the 18th WDO Course (WoodWorks Design Office — a practical course in timber construction structural design theory and software), sponsored by Canada Wood.
The course runs from October 12, 2019 to February 22, 2020, with classes held every Saturday for three hours (9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.). Tuition is 1.87 million won (including textbook fees and VAT), and overseas training costs are incurred separately for those who apply.
The curriculum of the 18th WDO Course includes: △a program for acquiring specialized knowledge in timber construction structural design; △learning timber construction structural calculations and the use of specialized structural software; and △acquiring practical knowledge of timber construction structural design through hands-on practice.
Key lecture topics include: △timber construction structural planning; △allowable stress design methods; △calculation of dead loads, live loads, snow loads, and wind loads; △design values and adjustment factors for structural materials; △design of bending, compression, and tension members; △design of connections and hardware; and △the use and practical application of WoodWorks software.
Those who complete the Wood University program are given priority eligibility to participate in the on-site timber housing training in Canada (UFV Training Course) conducted by Canada Wood, and WDO Course students are provided with an educational version of the WoodWorks Design Office structural design software.
