LX Hausys: Original and Highly Aesthetic Award-Winning Competition Entries

Grand Prize: Bringing the Korean beauty of the “jogakbo” patchwork wrapping cloth into the kitchen space

LX Hausys has taken the lead in residential interior and product design by holding an interior design competition together with young designers.

In connection with this, LX Hausys held the “2nd LX Z:IN Interior Design Competition Awards Ceremony” at the LX Z:IN Interior Zin Square Gangnam showroom in Nonhyeon-dong, Seoul, attended by the competition winners and LX Hausys officials.

Held for the second time following last year, this competition targeted university students nationwide and accepted idea submissions from March to May in two categories: △the interior design category and △the product design category.

Through a first-round internal review and a second-round review by outside experts, LX Hausys selected one Grand Prize team (KRW 10 million in prize money), two Gold Prize teams (KRW 5 million each), two Silver Prize teams (KRW 2 million each), four Bronze Prize teams (KRW 1 million each), and 20 honorable-mention teams.

The Grand Prize went to “The Aesthetics of Filling,” a work by a team of students from the Department of Interior Design at Hoseo University—Chu Do-hyun (4th year) and Kim Ji-woong (3rd year)—which presented a design bringing into the kitchen space the Korean beauty of the “jogakbo,” a patchwork wrapping cloth made by sewing together scraps of fabric. Reflecting the way the kitchen is expanding beyond simple cooking into a space for rest and communication, they proposed a new kitchen design concept composed of design elements that enable a variety of activities.

The Grand Prize, Gold Prize, and Silver Prize winners are offered an LX Hausys internship (July–August), and those who complete the internship with distinction are granted the special privilege of qualifying directly for a second-round interview during open recruitment, without having to go through the document screening and first-round interview stages.

At the awards ceremony that day, Grand Prize winners Chu Do-hyun and Kim Ji-woong said, “We drew a philosophy of ‘filling’ from the bojagi wrapping cloth, which since ancient times has carried the meaning of holding good fortune, and we applied to the kitchen space this philosophy of filling together with the Korean beauty of jogakbo, which creates a work by combining fabric pieces of various colors.”

LX Hausys CEO Kang Gye-woong said, “We held this second design competition both to widely promote LX Z:IN—which leads domestic interior trend design—to university students who are also our future customers, and to secure outstanding talent,” adding, “We plan to actively use these original and highly aesthetic award-winning entries in developing LX Z:IN interior products and residential space design concepts going forward.”
