Development of Structural Color
Compositions Based on Industrial Coatings

Chokwang Paint (CEO Yang Seong-a) announced that on the 21st it held a joint research and development agreement ceremony for the development of industrial coating compositions at the Technology Research Institute of KOMSCO (Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corporation; President Seong Chang-hoon), located in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon.
This agreement ceremony aimed to secure technology between the two companies by utilizing KOMSCO's photonic crystal technology and Chokwang Paint's proprietary application technology. It was held with the attendance of Lee No-el, Executive Director of Chokwang Paint, and Lee Jong-seon, Director of the KOMSCO Technology Research Institute, among others.
KOMSCO's photonic crystal technology is an optical technology that realizes structural color without pigments or dyes by controlling nanoparticle structures to modulate light. Through this agreement, the two organizations agreed to actively cooperate on △developing and advancing thermal- and photo-curable structural color compositions, △identifying application fields for eco-friendly colorants, and △preparing to pursue new businesses using the secured technology.
Lee No-el, Executive Director of Chokwang Paint, said, "Over the past three years, starting with special inks for security printing, the two companies have achieved research advancement and tangible results together through continuous joint research and development." He added, "In expanding our chemical materials market, our collaboration with KOMSCO is also serving as a precedent for joint R&D with other companies and on other items. This R&D project, too, will be a great opportunity for us to pursue mutual benefit and to grow and cooperate together through continued collaboration going forward."
Lee Jong-seon, Director of the KOMSCO Technology Research Institute, expressed his thoughts, saying, "I hope that expanding our anti-counterfeiting R&D collaboration will become a new growth engine for novel anti-counterfeiting technologies." Chokwang Paint is a company that is expanding its business areas—centered on high-value-added industries such as secondary battery materials and the IT and new materials industries—through new product development and technological innovation.
