Building a System of Accountable Construction

Hanssem Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Yu-jin) held its ‘General Contractor Vision Declaration Conference’ on September 8 at the Hanssem Sangam Building in Mapo-gu. With around 90 attendees, including executives and staff from general contractors and Hanssem Service, the company shared the vision for its general contractors and business, selected outstanding general contractors, and presented the inaugural ‘H-Class’ plaques.

This event was arranged for Hanssem—the nation’s No. 1 home interior company—to pledge shared growth with its general contractors and to share its strategy for differentiating construction quality in the Rehaus direct-construction package.

Hanssem Service, Hanssem’s construction-specialized subsidiary, began strengthening its construction competitiveness through general contractors in June of last year. By introducing a strategy centered on ‘general contractors’ in place of the ‘single-discipline contractor’ system in which each firm specializes in a single item, the company has so far cultivated some 80 general contractors nationwide.

A general contractor is a Hanssem construction partner equipped with the ability to comprehensively handle the entire interior process—not only furniture and building materials, but also basic works such as demolition, electrical, carpentry, painting, and wallpapering. Single-discipline contractors are responsible for the process of each individual item, such as kitchens, bathrooms, windows, and flooring.

As Hanssem expands the number of general contractors, it plans to increase the number of Rehaus package sites that general contractors construct on an accountable basis. When a general contractor takes responsibility and applies concentrated construction capabilities, more systematic on-site management and after-service become possible than under the past approach in which multiple ‘single-discipline contractors’ carried out the work. The company also unveiled plans to advance the cultivation of its core construction personnel: the remodeling site supervisor ‘PM (Package Manager),’ the on-site administrator ‘Field Manager,’ and the construction partner technician ‘Construction Pro.’ The strategy is to enhance the expertise of construction personnel and standardize construction quality through Hanssem Service’s systematic development system, spanning recruitment, entry-level training, promotion training, and performance management.
