Special lectures held across three sessions

The Cheonan City Urban Regeneration Support Center announced that the '2024 Cheonan × Urban Trend Guest Special Lecture' series, held on September 24 and October 15 and 24, was successfully concluded.

The first lecture, attended by around 60 people including staff of the Cheonan City Urban Regeneration Support Center, citizens, and students, was held under the theme 'Special Spaces That Drive Urban Change.' In this first session, Professor Cho Han of Hongik University took the stage as speaker and, under the theme 'Old Places, Aged Places, and New Places,' drew on a variety of case studies to emphasize the importance of preserving the memory of places and their historical context, offering a profound reflection on how space acts upon human senses and experience. In addition, on October 15, Cha Jae, CEO of Studio mmer, delivered a special lecture on 'Urban Architecture and Space Brand Strategy,' and on October 24, Choi Seong-wook, CEO of the Old Future Space Research Institute, gave a special lecture titled 'The 1 Euro Project: The Miracle of the 1,500-Won Space Together with a Good Lifestyle Local Managing System.'

By inviting experts from each field to address the branding of urban spaces and the sense of place, this lecture series provided a special opportunity for citizens interested in urban regeneration, students in related fields, and local creators to explore innovative ways to make use of urban architectural spaces.

Oh Hyeong-seok, director of the Cheonan City Urban Regeneration Support Center, which organized the event, explained, "I hope these special lectures served as an opportunity to consider the sense of place in urban spaces and its transformation from a variety of perspectives."

Meanwhile, guided by its mission of revitalizing urban spaces together with citizens and its vision as a specialized institution providing comprehensive support for urban regeneration in Cheonan, the Cheonan City Urban Regeneration Support Center carries out projects with a high level of resident engagement, builds internal and external urban regeneration governance, establishes a foundation for self-sustaining urban regeneration, and disseminates the outcomes of urban regeneration.
