The Seoul Museum of Art presents the exhibition <Scoring the Words> at its Seosomun Main Building through November 20.
<Scoring the Words> is part of the ‘Non-Western Region Exhibition Series’ that the Seoul Museum of Art has been organizing since 2014, and this year it turns its gaze to Asia. The exhibition is filled with the diverse practices of a total of 14 individuals (teams)—multinational artists, curators, researchers, and musicians—who are based in Asia or have deeply engaged with discussions surrounding Asia.
This exhibition interprets ‘poetry,’ the Seoul Museum of Art’s 2022 exhibition theme, as songs of the public that embody a shared imagination as well as a language of resistance. It observes the phenomena unfolding simultaneously and in various directions around contemporary Asia as a political, social, and cultural subject, and regards the practices of creators who write and speak about these phenomena as a kind of poetry. Through their practices, which unfold in diverse forms such as drawing, collage, video, performance, workshops, and radio broadcasting, the exhibition examines from multiple angles how a shared consciousness and sensibility are constituted and in what forms they are manifested in Asia today, and further reconsiders the meaning of ‘being together.’
In particular, this exhibition operates an ‘access point’ program that allows audiences to plan various actions and events together, going beyond the mere appreciation of artworks, thereby creating a sense of ‘being together’ and an experience of ‘connection.’ Through advance recruitment, audiences can not only participate in workshops and performances but also become performers in performance works, taking part in the exhibition more actively.
