Support for People with Color Vision Deficiency and Visual Impairments
Samhwa Paints Industrial Co., Ltd. signed a business agreement for the “Color Universal Design (CUD) Project” with Sensee Co., Ltd., a company specializing in braille and tactile special printing, on May 21.
Under this agreement, Samhwa Paints and Sensee will actively cooperate on the following: ▲jointly carrying out Color Universal Design (CUD) color planning for the interior and exterior of Sensee’s Paju factory ▲jointly supporting color cultural content provided to the local community ▲supporting people with visual impairments, low vision, and color vision deficiency.
Color Universal Design (CUD) is a customized color design created with consideration for people with color vision deficiencies, such as the elderly and those with color weakness, so that they can easily distinguish colors. Guide signs used in everyday life differentiate information by color. However, people with color vision deficiencies cannot perceive certain colors, making it difficult for them to identify such information. Color Universal Design was developed to solve this problem.
In 2015, Samhwa Paints became the first in the industry to develop Color Universal Design and applied it to a senior welfare facility in Hongseong. Since then, it has also provided Color Universal Design to facilities for visually impaired children, including Seoul National School for the Blind, Daegu Gwangmyeong School, and Jeonbuk School for the Blind.
On Friday, May 10, Samhwa Paints registered the copyright for the “Samhwa Color Universal Design Guide for Welfare Facilities for People with Disabilities,” which contains its Color Universal Design know-how.
Lee Sang-hee, head of Samhwa Paints’ Color Design Center, said, “As a color specialist company, Samhwa Paints aims to create a society where everyone can live equally and comfortably, without leaving behind neighbors marginalized by color—such as the elderly and infirm, people with color vision deficiency, and people with visual impairments.” He added, “Together with Sensee, which possesses braille and tactile special printing technology, we plan to create added value in line with ESG management.”
