The ‘Korea+Sweden Young Design Award,’ a design competition for Korean designers aimed at expanding design exchange between Korea and Sweden and raising interest in the design field, is being held.
Jointly hosted by the Embassy of Sweden in Korea, the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, and IKEA Korea, this competition was created to inspire passionate young Korean designers and foster their creativity, as interest in design grows and the influence and importance of original design steadily expands.
The Korea+Sweden Young Design Award is held each year around a new theme under three core values realized through design—△innovation, △sustainability, and △a better future—and this year’s theme is ‘Design for All (Inclusiveness).’ This refers to inclusive design, the idea that everyone should be able to experience good design and enjoy its benefits regardless of age, gender, or background, and the competition aims to discover creative designs that more people can enjoy.
The competition is open to any designer who can demonstrate their talent across a wide range of areas without boundaries in fields such as graphic, architecture, furniture, textile, and fashion design, and it is expected to offer a glimpse into the future potential of Korean design across diverse sectors.
Anyone of Korean nationality who is 34 years of age or younger as of the announcement date may enter the Korea+Sweden Young Design Award. Applicants can submit images containing an original design or design concept along with a design introduction through the official website by April 11.
The final winning works will be announced in late May following a multifaceted evaluation by the judging committee, and a total of three winners will receive support to grow as global designers, including a design study trip to Sweden and various exhibition opportunities.
