COMMAX Co., Ltd. (CEOs Byun Bong-deok and Byun Woo-seok) announced that it has won a contract for the Cyber Knowledge Information Room (hereinafter "CKIR") cloud computing environment improvement project undertaken by the Ministry of National Defense.
This project was launched because the PCs of the CKIR—introduced and operated since 2012—have exceeded their service life and reached the point of replacement, and in response to the government's policy of expanding cloud computing and open-source software, it aims to improve the existing CKIR environment.
In addition, by introducing a cloud computing environment, the project will advance the conditions for soldiers' self-development, such as by securing individual storage space. It is a project worth KRW 24.4 billion involving new installations and environmental improvements at 3,097 military CKIR sites over 217 days. COMMAX has been selected as the prime contractor for this project, with COMMAX's share amounting to approximately KRW 15.3 billion.
The CKIR cloud computing environment improvement project aims to improve the usage environment of the CKIR by replacing PCs that have passed their service life, and to build an operating system for a cloud-based central management system service. By providing individual cloud computing environments to military soldiers, the project seeks to support the continuous use of self-development materials from before military service through to after discharge, so that the period of military service can be utilized not as a period of disconnection from society but as an effective period of self-development.
Through winning this contract, COMMAX has expanded its capabilities in the SI (systems integration) business field and has had its potential recognized. The information and communication network construction know-how and cloud service implementation experience that COMMAX has accumulated over the years will be broadly applied not only to this project but also to future SI projects, and COMMAX plans to gradually expand its business areas.
COMMAX has recently been accelerating its SI business in the domestic and overseas smart home, smart city, public SI, and security fields, and has begun to achieve results with the LH demonstration project, the Canada smart home project, and the Ministry of National Defense's CKIR, among others.
