Philips Lighting Korea Co., Ltd. announced that it successfully concluded the '2018 LED EXPO OEM Seminar,' held on June 27 at KINTEX in Ilsan. The seminar, aimed at domestic OEM partner companies and end users, showcased the vision of the connected lighting industry along with the latest solutions, drawing an enthusiastic response from industry insiders.
Philips Lighting Korea presented its vision for the connected lighting industry, including △a reasonable level of standardization, △interoperability, △the digitalization of drivers, and △the wireless transformation of lighting, and introduced solutions to realize this vision, such as the Easy Air wireless sensor and the SR (Sensor Ready) driver.
In addition, the company explained that the standardization of digital lighting has already begun in North America and Europe alongside SR drivers—citing initiatives such as the Digital Illumination Interface Alliance (DiiA) newly established by the U.S. industrial standards body ANSI and the DALI association—and emphasized the development of standards for connected lighting systems in Korea as well as collaboration with domestic partner companies.
Bob van der Linden, head of LED driver products at Signify's Global LED business division, who gave the presentation that day, focused his explanation on the Easy Air wireless sensor portfolio.
Easy Air, one of the most important technologies in connected lighting, helps switch lights on and off by detecting whether a space is in use, and adjusts illuminance by sensing natural light, thereby contributing to maximizing energy efficiency and reducing costs. Depending on the space of application, there are options for offices, high-bay for warehouses and factories, and outdoor use.
In particular, there are systems that can be used on a standalone basis, systems that allow lighting fixtures to be grouped together, and IoT cloud-based systems, so users can choose according to their needs. These advanced technology options from Signify have the positive effect of lowering the risk burden for customers who find the initial investment cost daunting, while enhancing their future competitiveness.
Seminar presenter Bob van der Linden said, "With just two wires, you can create an ecosystem that connects the vast world into one, and connected lighting can also be easily implemented."
