Signify Korea equips a 9,090㎡ advanced smart glasshouse
Custom solutions backed by global horticulture-lighting expertise
Signify Korea (formerly Philips Lighting Korea), a leader in the domestic lighting industry, has installed Philips LED horticulture lighting in a 9,090㎡ (2,750-pyeong) glasshouse, which forms part of a smart greenhouse spanning 44,628㎡ (13,500 pyeong).
Philips LED horticulture lighting is customized horticultural lighting for professional growing operations that promotes plant growth and enables the harvest of more high-quality produce. Drawing on more than 85 years of global horticulture-lighting expertise, Philips has developed methods for applying lighting technology to crops and builds tailored horticulture-lighting solutions powered by cutting-edge LED innovation.
The recently equipped greenhouse belonging to Harang Agricultural Cooperative is a state-of-the-art, 44,628㎡ smart greenhouse for growing tomatoes, located in Gimje, North Jeolla Province. Signify Korea installed 450 Philips GreenPower LED Top Lighting Compact units in the greenhouse, providing optimal supplemental-lighting recipe expertise and professional supplemental-lighting consulting for stable tomato production.
This creates an optimized environment for crop growth, boosting yields and making year-round output predictable, thereby improving crop quality while shortening the production cycle. In addition, outstanding light uniformity grows every plant evenly to maximize profitability, while high light efficiency reduces the costs of greenhouse operation.
In particular, the Philips GreenPower LED Top Lighting Compact is designed to match the wiring, connectors, trusses, and mounting structures of the widely used sodium (HPS) fixtures so that it can seamlessly replace existing sodium (HPS) luminaires. Two beam-distribution options—wide beam and standard beam—are available, and the product comes in two versions: an On-Off version and a dimming version.
Kang Yong-nam, President of Signify Northeast Asia, emphasized, “Philips LED horticulture lighting solutions will be an alternative for solving future food challenges,” adding, “We will work even harder to enable the cultivation of healthy, safe food not only during winter and rainy seasons with little sunlight, but also in the face of natural disasters.”
Meanwhile, Harang Agricultural Cooperative is a corporation posting annual sales of 13.8 billion won. It operates a smart farm that concentrates cutting-edge technology and supplies agri-food products to Costco and other retailers. This past June, it also brought hope to the local community through social contribution, donating tomatoes to promote the health of local residents.
