The Buti Museum of Art, located in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, is holding the Heinrich Reisenbauer exhibition 'Repetition' through October 29.
This exhibition is the first solo show to spotlight the artistic career of Heinrich Reisenbauer, an Austrian-born outsider artist. Presented with the support of the Austrian Embassy in Korea and Galerie Gugging, the exhibition comprises 70 works, including paintings and drawings. It was conceived to examine the quality of 'repetition' — a hallmark of his work as well as something we can experience in life — and to trace the artist's visual world.
Born in 1938, Reisenbauer's artistic activity began through his connection with Gugging. In 1986, the artist moved his residence to the House of Artists at Gugging and launched his career starting with drawings created using pencil and colored pencil. The multiplicity of the subject images that appear within a single picture is a principal feature of his work. The subjects depicted through repetitive acts are similar but not identical. This 'similarity' and 'difference' can also be found in the subject matter he selects for his works. Works produced through Reisenbauer's distinctive working method form a particular structure, which helps make his work identifiable.
It is hoped that this exhibition, which presents Reisenbauer's creative work, will not only deepen understanding of his art but also serve as a medium that fosters an open perspective toward outsider art and sparks the creative reflection latent within viewers.
In addition, a variety of educational programs will be held during the exhibition period. 'Everyone, Everyone, Fingers,' currently in operation, offers children experiences they cannot easily encounter in their surroundings through acts 'that machines cannot replace.'
