On June 8, Hanwha L&C signed a social contribution agreement with the Ministry of Environment for the ‘Environmental Disease Prevention Project for Socially Vulnerable Groups’ at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

Hosted and organized by the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, the ‘Environmental Disease Prevention Project for the Activity Spaces of Socially Vulnerable Groups and the Elderly’ is a program that diagnoses and improves harmful factors that can cause environmental diseases in the activity spaces of socially vulnerable groups—including low-income households, single-parent households, multicultural households, households with persons with disabilities, and households of elderly people living alone. It has been running since 2009. This year, a total of 16 socially responsible companies, including Hanwha L&C, are participating by sponsoring eco-friendly building materials.

Having taken part in the environmental disease prevention project since 2013, Hanwha L&C plans to help improve indoor environments through this year’s project by sponsoring its eco-friendly PVC flooring ‘Myeongga Premium’ and its eco-friendly laminated wallpaper ‘Q’tie’—products that use only all-virgin raw materials and satisfy ‘zero’ content of phthalate plasticizers (an endocrine-disrupting substance), ‘zero’ heavy metal content, and ‘zero’ formaldehyde.

For this year’s project, the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute will diagnose environmental disease risk factors in about 1,700 households and, from among the diagnosed households, select 650 with poor indoor environments to carry out indoor environment improvement work. In addition, free medical care services will be provided to 300 children and adolescents suffering from atopic dermatitis or asthma among the diagnosed households of vulnerable groups.

An official from Hanwha L&C said, “This is our sixth consecutive year of participation, and going forward we plan to continue our support activities wherever help is needed to improve indoor living environments through the provision of healthy flooring and eco-friendly wallpaper.” The official added, “As environmental diseases emerge as a social issue and interest in eco-friendly finishing materials continues to grow, we will spare no investment or effort in developing eco-friendly building materials that consumers can use with peace of mind.”
