Signs joint development agreement with LGU+ for smart safety equipment integrating IoT
Develops ‘Safety and Health System App’ to support partner companies
Hyundai Elevator (CEO Song Seung-bong) announced that it is taking the lead in achieving zero serious accidents through a safety system that integrates the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart technology.
On January 27, at the Hyundai Group headquarters, Hyundai Elevator signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LGU+ on ‘cooperation for the joint development and expansion of a smart safety equipment system,’ agreeing to work together on △developing three types of smart safety equipment IoT sensors (a helmet chin-strap sensor, a safety hook sensor, and a safety belt sensor), △developing a dedicated worker app/control platform, and △verifying and expanding the safety solution.
The smart safety equipment links with smartphones and sensors (Beacons) that can detect workers entering and exiting the elevator shaft to check whether the equipment is being worn and whether the lifeline is fastened, sending a warning message if it is not worn. In addition, it is expected to improve on-site safety culture by collecting real-time data, while reducing serious accidents and casualties through systematic management.
The two companies plan to select 30 pilot sites where the smart safety equipment system technology will be applied and begin verification from May, and based on this, to expand its deployment to directly operated and partner sites within the year.
Jeon Seung-hoon, Head of the Smart Infrastructure Business (Executive Director) at LG Uplus, said, “Through the smart safety equipment system being developed this time, we expect to reduce fall accidents, which account for the largest share of serious accidents. Starting with this, we will provide a variety of smart safety solutions that can offer real, practical help to workers and industrial sites.”
In addition, Hyundai Elevator has completed development of a ‘Safety and Health System App’ that allows workers to manage pre-work safety inspections (TBM), report identified hazards and suggest improvements, and view safety manuals via smartphone, and plans to provide it to partner companies as well as directly operated sites during February.
Lee Jung-han, CSEO (Chief Safety and Environment Officer) of Hyundai Elevator, said, “Together with the Chungju Smart Campus, where systematic safety management is possible through the adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, we will strive to achieve zero serious accidents at all of our sites—including manufacturing, installation, and service—based on the establishment of a smart safety system.”
