Signs Exclusive Distribution and Sales Agreement with Germany's ‘Knauf Insulation’
Unveils inorganic insulation products for exterior walls, ceilings, and lightweight partitions
Hyundai L&C, the comprehensive building-materials company of the Hyundai Department Store Group, announced that it has signed an exclusive domestic distribution and sales agreement with Germany's Knauf Insulation, a world-leading insulation manufacturer, for ‘Knauf Building Inorganic Insulation,’ and is now moving to capture the B2B market.
Knauf Insulation is the insulation-specialized affiliate of the ‘Knauf Group,’ a global building-materials company that produces and distributes insulation, ceiling materials, compounds, and more in an environmentally friendly manner across 86 countries worldwide.
The products Hyundai L&C is introducing for the first time are insulation materials produced in fiber form by melting glass raw materials such as silica sand at high temperatures, available in a total of three types: for exterior walls, ceilings, and lightweight partitions. The exterior-wall and ceiling types offer excellent water-repellent performance, so they do not deform or lose function due to moisture. The lightweight-partition type, installed between walls, is characterized by outstanding sound absorption that absorbs sound and reduces reverberation.
In particular, the new products apply Knauf Insulation's own eco-friendly patented ‘Ecose Binding Technology,’ making them more environmentally friendly and harmless to the human body than ordinary insulation. Because Knauf Building Inorganic Insulation uses natural corn starch as the binder (adhesive) that connects fiber to fiber, no harmful substances are contained in the product.
With its Ecose Binding Technology, Knauf Insulation has also obtained authoritative global eco-friendly certifications in Europe and the United States, including indoor air-quality certification (EUROFINS), Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification, and Green Guard.
Efficiency has been enhanced as well. Unlike other products on the market, the fibers used in Knauf Building Inorganic Insulation are uniform in size and fine, delivering superior high-frequency sound absorption and soundproofing compared to products of the same density. They are not irritating during installation, providing an optimal working environment for installers. In addition, because the fiber material is flexible, the product can be compressed to its maximum size without any change in shape or decline in function, so when compression-packaged, logistics and installation costs are cut by more than half compared to other products.
Through this launch of Knauf Building Inorganic Insulation, Hyundai L&C plans to accelerate its exterior-materials business as well. It intends to expand its B2B sales network centered on mid- to large-scale commercial facilities such as hospitals, hotels, and office buildings. To this end, it also plans to further enter the exterior-materials product lineup, which holds high future growth potential, gradually expanding its business portfolio—currently centered on interior and finishing materials—into the exterior-materials business.
