Hyundai L&C Wins Prime Minister's Commendation for Eco-Friendly Efforts

Hyundai L&C, a comprehensive building-materials company under the Hyundai Department Store Group, announced that it received the Prime Minister's Commendation in the Green Industry and ESG Management category at the ‘2023 Government Awards for Merit in Eco-Friendly Technology Promotion and Consumption Encouragement.’

The 2023 Government Awards for Merit in Eco-Friendly Technology Promotion and Consumption Encouragement is a program that honors individuals, companies, and institutions that have contributed to national and social development, such as spreading the practice of low-carbon living. Hosted by the Ministry of Environment and organized by the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute, the awards have been presented annually since 2008.

An official from Hyundai L&C said, “We were honored with the Prime Minister's Commendation in recognition of our achievement in reducing thousands of tons of carbon through our eco-friendly campaign ‘LESS CO2.’”

Hyundai L&C is pursuing the ‘LESS CO2’ carbon-reduction campaign, which centers on ▲expanding the development of low-carbon products ▲reducing energy use ▲establishing waste-reduction processes and ▲producing eco-friendly material packaging. Through this campaign, Hyundai L&C is cutting approximately 4,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year. This is equivalent to the effect of planting 600,000 30-year-old pine trees.

Hyundai L&C has developed a recycled PET furniture film that upcycles plastic bottles, eliminating more than 1,000 tons of domestic PET waste annually. At its Sejong business site, where its production facilities are concentrated, the company is achieving carbon reductions of more than 2,000 tons per year through process improvements.

Meanwhile, the Hyundai Department Store Group has previously received Presidential Commendations in the carbon-neutral living practice category at the Government Awards for Merit in Eco-Friendly Technology Promotion and Consumption Encouragement—Hyundai Home Shopping in 2019 and Hyundai Department Store in 2021.
