Awards ceremony held for the ‘35th 2023 Korea Interior Architecture Competition’
Co-hosted with the Korea Society of Interior Architects/Designers (KOSID) for the 14th consecutive year
KCC Glass (CEO Chung Mong-ik) announced that its interior specialty brand ‘HomeCC Interior’ successfully held the awards ceremony for the ‘35th 2023 Korea Interior Architecture Competition,’ co-hosted with the Korea Society of Interior Architects/Designers (KOSID), on November 11 at the Design Hall of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP).
The Korea Interior Architecture Competition is a contest with a long history and tradition, and is one of Korea’s leading interior architecture design events, serving as a gateway for up-and-coming designers. KCC Glass’s HomeCC Interior has co-hosted the competition for 14 consecutive years since 2010 in order to support the expansion of the interior architecture design base and the discovery of new talent. This year’s competition, marking its 35th edition, once again drew strong participation from talented future interior architecture designers. Entry submissions began in October, and a total of 299 works were entered. Following a two-round evaluation process, 98 works were selected as final award winners: △Grand Prize (1 work) △Best Award (2 works) △Excellence Award (5 works) △Encouragement Award (20 works) △Special Selection (31 works) and △Honorable Mention (39 works). The Grand Prize-winning work received a certificate and prize money of 6 million won, the Best Award-winning works received a certificate and prize money of 3 million won each, and the remaining winning works were each also awarded a certificate and prize money.
The honor of the Grand Prize went to the student team of Jang Dae-won, Ahn Hee-young, and Kim Ju-hee of Konkuk University Glocal Campus, who submitted the work titled ‘Disinformation Incinerator.’ The Grand Prize-winning work earned high praise from the judges for its creative spatial composition in designing a multi-purpose library that enables information sharing in various forms—such as exhibitions, lectures, and hands-on experiences—with the aim of helping restore trust in journalism, which has recently been under threat from rampant fake news and disinformation. In addition, the ‘HomeCC Award,’ one of the Best Awards, went to the student team of Seol Dong-jun, Kim Wi-na, and Seo Jae-hyun of Konkuk University Glocal Campus for the work titled ‘REFRESH, a Mobile Phone Recycling Space Exploring the Value Within Discarded Phones,’ while the ‘Korea Specialty Contractors Association Interior Architecture Construction Business Council Chairman’s Award,’ another Best Award, went to the student team of Lee Sang-hoon, Lim Ye-jin, and Son Ga-young of Hanyang University for the work titled ‘Vertical Yihyeon.’
Heo Hyeok, chairman of the Korea Society of Interior Architects/Designers, which co-hosted the competition, said, “This year in particular, it was impressive that many works were submitted under the theme of ‘the social contribution of interior architecture,’ seeking to solve socially significant issues through interior architecture design,” adding, “Through works filled with each emerging designer’s philosophy of space and fresh, original ideas, we were able to catch a glimpse of the bright future of Korea’s interior architecture design field.”
A KCC Glass official said, “The Korea Interior Architecture Competition has continued for 35 years to date and has firmly established itself as a competition that truly represents Korea’s interior architecture design,” adding, “HomeCC Interior will continue to contribute to nurturing talent who will lead the future of Korea’s interior architecture industry, while carrying on its efforts to create the value of space together with them.”
