DINES releases results of survey on bathroom use
Activities for mental and physical relaxation, such as soaking baths and meditation, rank first
The bathroom, once a purely sanitary space, is being reborn as a place for rest and healing. According to the results of an SNS survey conducted by DINES, a company specializing in bathrooms, 8 out of 10 people (77.3%) spend healing time in the bathroom.
From November 2 to 12, DINES conducted a survey on <bathroom use behavior> through its official DINES Instagram account. In response to the question, "Aside from its sanitary function, have you ever used the bathroom for rest or healing?", 77.3% (881 people) of the total 1,140 respondents answered "yes."
As for "how they use the bathroom for healing (multiple responses allowed)," "mental and physical relaxation, such as reading, soaking baths, and meditation" was the most common at 49.2% (561 people). This was followed by "using a mobile phone, such as mobile games and SNS" at 42.9% (489 people), which ranked second among activities done for healing in the bathroom, while "enjoying cultural content" such as music or movies came in at 26.5% (297 people), and "contacting acquaintances via phone calls, KakaoTalk, etc." at 25.5% (291 people).
When asked about "the amount of time spent using the bathroom for healing (excluding time for hygiene)," 15 minutes (39.3%) and 30 minutes (37.4%) ranked first and second, followed by 45 minutes (9.7%), less than 1 hour (8.9%), and more than 1 hour (4.6%). In addition, regarding "the reasons for spending more time in the bathroom (multiple responses allowed)," respondents cited longer washing times due to concerns over safety and health such as infection (36.9%), the need for a new space due to restrictions on the use of shared facilities (33.2%), and the need for a private space entirely of one's own, away from family (32.7%).
In addition, when asked "have you ever purchased related products for healing in the bathroom?", 58.6% answered yes, and bath products (29.2%) were the most commonly purchased item.
A DINES official said, "Through this survey, we were able to see that the bathroom is being reborn as a space for rest and healing beyond a sanitary space," adding, "In particular, unlike other spaces in the home shared with family, such as the living room and kitchen, the bathroom allows people to have time entirely to themselves, which is likely why it is increasingly preferred as a space for recharging."
Meanwhile, in line with the trend of the bathroom transforming into a healing space, DINES is presenting "Healing Therapy," a bathroom remodeling package designed to incorporate healing design. The package applies color therapy tiles whose therapeutic effects have been certified by the Korea Color Therapy Association, transforming the bathroom into a space where one can relax and gain rest and energy while lingering leisurely.
Available in two designs—a Sage Green type and an Orange Terracotta type—the "Sage Green" type can be arranged with wood-tone upper cabinets and green plants to complete a planterior bathroom, while the "Orange Terracotta" type creates a lively bathroom atmosphere through the harmony of orange, which conveys mental ease and abundance, and yellow-beige, which brings positive energy.
