Kiturami Group delivers a total of 2.3 billion won in Kiturami scholarships
Over 50,000 scholarship recipients across 37 years, with cumulative scholarships totaling 30 billion won
Kiturami Group is supporting the dreams of future talent through a scholarship program that has continued for 37 years.
Kiturami Group (Chairman Choi Jin-min) announced that it has successfully concluded the ‘2022 Kiturami Scholarship Program.’
Beginning in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province in February of last year and running through Suncheon, South Jeolla Province on December 14, Kiturami Group delivered a total of 2.3 billion won in Kiturami scholarships to 2,000 recipients selected across 47 local governments nationwide, including exemplary students, children from low-income families, and children serving as heads of their households.
Kiturami Group’s scholarship program began with the active commitment to social contribution of founder and Chairman Choi Jin-min, under the belief that ‘educational opportunity must be equal for everyone.’
Since the Kiturami Culture Foundation—established in 1985 with Chairman Choi Jin-min’s personal funds—first selected scholarship recipients, the program has been carried out without interruption for 37 years. Over that time, the total number of scholarship recipients selected through the program has reached approximately 50,000, and the cumulative amount of scholarships has reached 30 billion won.
In addition, through its affiliated public-interest foundations, the Kiturami Culture Foundation and the Kiturami Welfare Foundation, Kiturami Group has pursued a variety of social contribution initiatives beyond the scholarship program, returning 51 billion won to society to date in a practice of sharing-based management.
Representative examples include academic research support projects to strengthen basic science competitiveness and development funds for educational institutions to improve education—all support programs aimed at nurturing future talent. In addition, the group is fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by carrying out various support programs in the social welfare field, such as support for social welfare facilities, Kiturami boiler inspection projects, and housing environment improvement projects.
An official from Kiturami Group said, “Realizing the public good by guaranteeing equal educational opportunity is Kiturami Group’s long-standing philosophy and mission of social contribution. In 2022, reflecting the worsening economic conditions caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we significantly expanded the scale of scholarship support compared to previous years,” adding, “Going forward, we will continue to spare no effort in providing scholarships and various forms of support so that young talent who will lead the future of Korea can overcome economic hardship and focus on their studies.”
