‘The Future Transformation of Urban Architecture’

The ‘2023 Korea Architecture Culture Festival,’ an architectural culture festival that examines the current state and future possibilities of Korea's architectural culture through a variety of exhibition programs and seminars, was held from October 25 to 29 at ‘Culture Station Seoul 284.’

This year's 2023 Korea Architecture Culture Festival presented a range of exhibitions and seminars under the theme of the future transformation of urban architecture. The themed exhibition featured renowned architects and media artists from Korea and abroad presenting a diverse array of works. Visitors could encounter the varied visions and ideas on the future of urban architecture from architects such as BIG, MVRDV, Migliore+Servetto, Mladen Jadric, SKM, Unsangdong, and Ha Tae-seok, and could also experience the work of media artist Lee Kyung-hwa in particular.

Ahead of the opening ceremony, an open review selecting the final award winners was held both online and offline under the title ‘Architecture Talk Show,’ followed by a keynote lecture by Kwon Young-gul (Chairman of the Presidential Commission on Architecture Policy) on the theme ‘A Nation Like a Park, a City Like a Garden.’ At the opening ceremony, the awards for the 2023 Korea Spatial Culture Awards and the Young Architect Award were also presented.

The main events included exhibitions that reviewed the award trends of major architecture prizes held throughout 2023 and offered a gauge of the current state of Korean architecture, as well as seminars and roundtable discussions that looked back on the architectural culture of the era in areas such as architecture-related safety, smart convergence design, OSC, and smart urban architecture.
