NOROO Paint Signs Agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Government

2024 Seoul Color ‘Skycoral’

NOROO Paint announced that on November 30 last year it signed a business agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Government for the ‘Implementation and Diffusion of the Seoul Color’ at the large conference room on the third floor of Seoul City Hall.

The signing ceremony was held with Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and NOROO Paint President Cho Sung-kook in attendance, along with officials from participating companies such as LG Chem and Remyjay.

Through this agreement, NOROO Paint plans to leverage its color technology and consulting capabilities to support the development of the 2024 Seoul Color for the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s ‘Design Seoul 2.0 Project,’ and to cooperate on multiple fronts so that the Seoul Color can successfully permeate the everyday lives of the public.

At the event, the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Design Policy Officer unveiled the 2024 Seoul Color ‘Skycoral’ for the first time. The ‘2024 Seoul Color,’ jointly developed by NOROO Paint’s specialized color research institute NSDS (NOROO Seoul Design Studio, hereinafter NSDS) and the Seoul Metropolitan Government, was inspired by the sunset over the Han River sky in Seoul.

In developing the Seoul Color as part of the ‘Design Seoul 2.0 Project’ aimed at creating a ‘Joyful, Vibrant City of Seoul,’ the Seoul Metropolitan Government selected NSDS as a competitive private-sector partner in the color research field and carried out the collaboration.

Going forward, it will be applied to Seoul’s major landmarks such as Namsan Tower, Seoul City Hall, and Lotte World Tower, as well as spaces that can be enjoyed by local residents and people of all ages, including △natural green areas △waterfronts △historical and cultural sites △urban districts △outdoor advertising.

A variety of products will also be created through corporate collaboration. NOROO Paint will produce a postcard-type ‘Seoul Standard Color Book,’ LG Chem and artist Ha Ji-hoon will produce mini soban (low tables) made from recycled waste plastic, and the cosmetics brand Toheelme will launch Seoul Color lipsticks.

Previously, in 2022, NSDS and the Seoul Metropolitan Government also signed a ‘Standardized Safety Design’ business agreement, developing colors (six in total) that can be easily distinguished by people with color vision deficiencies such as color weakness and color blindness who are placed in safety blind spots. These were produced and distributed as the ‘Seoul Safety Design Manual,’ receiving high praise from those engaged in related work at schools, construction sites, and local governments.

Han Kyung-won, executive director of NOROO Paint’s Marketing Strategy Office, said, “At the company level, we will actively cooperate to help realize the design city that the Seoul Metropolitan Government is pursuing,” adding, “We will continue to do our best so that NOROO Paint’s accumulated color information and design technology can contribute to expanding customers’ cultural life and enhancing the value of their lives.”
