Permits 45,000 units, Construction Starts 59,000, Unsold 15,000 units

Multi-family housing sales performance up 221% year-on-year

▲In March, nationwide housing permits totaled 45,354 units, up 34.8% from the same month a year earlier (33,648 units), while Seoul recorded 6,691 units, up 44.9% year-on-year.

By region, the Seoul metropolitan area posted 22,067 units, up 34.2% year-on-year but down 7.3% from the five-year average, while provincial areas recorded 23,287 units, up 35.3% year-on-year but down 0.7% from the five-year average. By type, nationwide apartments totaled 34,677 units, up 40.7% year-on-year, while non-apartment housing came to 10,677 units, up 18.6% year-on-year.

▲In March, nationwide housing construction starts totaled 58,737 units, up 63.1% from the same month a year earlier (36,014 units). By region, the Seoul metropolitan area posted 30,755 units, up 47.1% year-on-year and up 37.4% from the five-year average, while provincial areas recorded 27,982 units, up 85.3% year-on-year and up 45.5% from the five-year average. By type, nationwide apartments totaled 47,694 units, up 82.7% year-on-year, while non-apartment housing came to 11,043 units, up 11.5% year-on-year.

▲In March, nationwide multi-family housing sales totaled 39,328 units, up 221% from the same month a year earlier (12,252 units). By region, the Seoul metropolitan area posted 12,218 units, up 54.7% year-on-year but down 30.5% from the five-year average, while provincial areas recorded 27,110 units, up 522.5% year-on-year and up 95.2% from the five-year average. By type, general sales totaled 22,946 units, up 142.8% year-on-year; rental housing came to 10,775 units, up 7,083.3% year-on-year; and union member allocations totaled 5,607 units, up 111.5% year-on-year.

▲In March, nationwide housing completions totaled 27,992 units, down 10.7% from the same month a year earlier (31,348 units). By region, the Seoul metropolitan area posted 13,767 units, down 17.5% year-on-year and down 15.6% from the five-year average, while provincial areas recorded 14,225 units, down 3.0% year-on-year and down 22.8% from the five-year average. By type, nationwide apartments totaled 21,090 units, down 10.3% year-on-year, while non-apartment housing came to 6,902 units, down 11.9% year-on-year.

▲As of March, unsold housing nationwide totaled 15,270 units, down 3.3% (516 units) from the previous month (15,786 units). The Seoul metropolitan area recorded 1,520 units, down 4.8% (77 units) from the previous month (1,597 units), while provincial areas posted 13,750 units, down 3.1% (439 units) from the previous month (14,189 units). Unsold units after completion numbered 9,965, down 7.6% (814 units) from the previous month (10,779 units).

Looking at total unsold inventory by size, unsold mid-to-large units exceeding 85㎡ numbered 560, down 4.1% (24 units) from the previous month (584 units), while units of 85㎡ or less totaled 14,710, down 3.2% (492 units) from the previous month (15,202 units).
