Outerior, gardening, DIY and BBQ — bagging all four birds at once

Explosive growth in exhibitors, with premium furniture brands turning out in force

‘spoga+gafa 2023,’ the international outdoor living and lifestyle trade fair, will be held in Cologne, Germany, from June 18 to 20.

Now in its 48th edition, spoga+gafa truly spans every field of outdoor-space interiors and leisure. As the industry's leading trade fair, it presents hundreds of product categories, from premium outdoor furniture and DIY to outdoor BBQ, outdoor kitchens, gardening, and outdoor pools and play facilities. This year, the number of companies applying to exhibit and the size of the booths requested far surpassed the previous year. spoga+gafa 2023 will be organized into the Garden Living, Garden Unique, Garden creation&care, and BBQ segments.

Reflecting this year's shifts in living trends, spoga+gafa has adopted the exhibition theme ‘Garden of Encounters — Spaces to Meet.’ As the COVID endemic has brought the outdoor living lifestyle back into the spotlight, gardens, yards, rooftops and terraces are seeing greater use for gathering family together for a barbecue or inviting friends over. The broad spectrum of product categories and outstanding international scope are expected to bring a rich diversity that layers the common core theme of gathering and fellowship.

One of the biggest reasons to visit spoga+gafa this year is the ‘Garden Unique’ themed exhibition hall, filled with premium outdoor furniture brands from around the world. Many world-class outdoor furniture companies have announced their participation, and promising newcomers have applied to exhibit one after another.

From outdoor lounges to dining, the outdoor furniture hall will be enriched by the participation of garden furniture masters Kettler; Glatz, the Swiss shade-canopy manufacturer boasting a 125-year history; the luxury parasol maker Doppler; and Apple Bee, LIFE Outdoor and 4SO, all members of DOFAS (the German association of outdoor furniture manufacturers).

Compared with the previous edition, the outdoor furniture exhibition space has been expanded roughly threefold and is set to occupy about 900㎡. As the latest collections from the industry's leading companies come together in one place, the Garden Unique and Garden Living halls—which focus intensively on outdoor furniture—will showcase gardening tools and horticultural products incorporating digital technology, along with everything related to gardening, offering a look at gardening trends.

Barbecue, the highlight of camping, is spoga+gafa's pride. Along with live cooking shows held outdoors, the large-scale barbecue parties staged both inside and outside the exhibition halls precisely target the consumer sentiment that ‘you only really know a machine once you've used it yourself.’
