Permit approvals up 21.1%
▲Cumulative housing permit approvals through July totaled 277,354 units nationwide, up 21.1% from 229,026 units in the same period last year. The Seoul metropolitan area recorded 143,140 units, up 18.1% year-on-year, while provincial areas recorded 134,214 units, up 24.5% year-on-year. Nationwide apartments totaled 206,800 units, up 23.1% year-on-year, while non-apartment housing totaled 70,554 units, up 15.7% year-on-year.
▲Cumulative housing construction starts through July totaled 310,937 units nationwide, up 11.8% from 278,203 units in the same period last year. The Seoul metropolitan area recorded 152,180 units, up 0.2% year-on-year, while provincial areas recorded 158,757 units, up 25.6% year-on-year. Nationwide apartments totaled 230,326 units, up 5.4% year-on-year, while non-apartment housing totaled 80,611 units, up 35.2% year-on-year.
▲Cumulative multi-family housing sales offerings through July totaled 184,321 units nationwide, down 2.2% from 188,437 units in the same period last year. The Seoul metropolitan area recorded 85,564 units, down 18.5% year-on-year, while provincial areas recorded 98,757 units, up 18.3% year-on-year. General sales offerings totaled 136,348 units, up 8.7% year-on-year; rental housing totaled 25,072 units, up 32.8% year-on-year; and cooperative member allotments totaled 22,901 units, down 48.1% year-on-year.
▲Cumulative housing completions through July totaled 215,475 units nationwide, down 26.4% from 292,807 units in the same period last year. The Seoul metropolitan area recorded 129,429 units, down 17.1% year-on-year, while provincial areas recorded 86,046 units, down 37.1% year-on-year. Nationwide apartments totaled 160,840 units, down 31.6% year-on-year, while non-apartment housing totaled 54,635 units, down 5.1% year-on-year.
▲As of the end of July, unsold housing nationwide totaled 15,198 units, down 6.7% (1,091 units) from 16,289 units the previous month. The Seoul metropolitan area recorded 1,381 units, down 17.1% (285 units) from 1,666 units the previous month, while provincial areas recorded 13,817 units, down 5.5% (806 units) from 14,623 units the previous month. Unsold units remaining after completion totaled 8,558 units, down 5.0% (450 units) from 9,008 units the previous month. By size, large and mid-to-large unsold units exceeding 85㎡ totaled 471 units, down 9.9% (52 units) from 523 units the previous month, while units of 85㎡ or less totaled 14,727 units, down 6.6% (1,039 units) from 15,766 units the previous month.
▲July housing sales transactions (based on reporting date) totaled 88,937 cases. This was similar to the previous month's level (88,922 cases) and down 37.1% from 141,419 cases in the same month last year. The Seoul metropolitan area (42,074 cases) was up 0.1% from the previous month and down 44.4% year-on-year, while provincial areas (46,863 cases) were down 0.1% from the previous month and down 28.7% year-on-year. Apartments (59,386 cases) were up 2.6% from the previous month and down 42.1% year-on-year, while non-apartments (29,551 cases) were down 4.9% from the previous month and down 23.8% year-on-year.
