DFA Design for Asia Awards select a total of 216 works
The Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) has announced the winners of the ‘DFA Award 2023,’ a distinguished celebration honoring design excellence that recognizes lasting impact in Asia.
Established in 2003 by the Hong Kong Design Centre and with Create Hong Kong of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) as its lead sponsor, the DFA honors outstanding design projects with impact in Asia, and in particular highlights the indispensable role of designers and leaders who have made significant contributions to the design profession, education, and society in Asia.
Kenya HARA was named the recipient of the DFA Lifetime Achievement Award. Kenya HARA is renowned for his design work on the opening and closing ceremonies of the Nagano Winter Olympics and the 2005 Nagano Expo. The DFA Design Leadership Award went to Victor LO Chung-wing. Victor LO Chung-wing has played a pivotal role in establishing and driving change at Hong Kong’s iconic cultural and creative institutions and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks. JIANG Qiong Er was named the DFA World’s Outstanding Chinese Designer. JIANG Qiong Er was recognized for her significant contributions to the global design landscape, bridging tradition and innovation. She focuses on a sensibility that harmonizes tradition and modernity, craft and technology, and functionality and emotion.
The ‘DFA Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award 2023’ honored 17 young and outstanding Hong Kong designers across various dimensions, and 13 of the recipients will qualify for financial sponsorship to work or study abroad in order to broaden their horizons, gain valuable experience, and contribute to their personal development and to Hong Kong’s creative industries.
The ‘DFA Design for Asia Awards 2023’ is an event that celebrates and honors outstanding achievements in design with impact in Asia, covering a comprehensive spectrum of design excellence across six diverse categories.
This year, a total of 216 works were selected: 10 Grand Awards, 19 Gold Awards, 40 Silver Awards, 55 Bronze Awards, and 92 Merit Awards. All winning works represent achievements in design excellence and innovation. A panel of more than 40 international judges, comprising experts from various design fields and regions, offered insightful perspectives on the winning works, reflecting the diversity and inclusiveness of the awards judging process.
