Cold Repair of Production Line No. 5
Producing Approximately 2,450 Tons of Glass per Day
KCC Glass (Chairman Chung Mong-ik), a leading comprehensive glass company in Korea, completed cold repair work on production line No. 5 at its Yeoju plant in Gyeonggi-do on June 3 and held a furnace lighting ceremony, in which fire was first introduced into the melting furnace.
The lighting ceremony was attended by KCC Glass Chairman Chung Mong-ik, along with KCC Chairman Chung Mong-jin and KCC E&C Chairman Chung Mong-yeul. The event was held in a simplified manner, attended only by relevant executives and employees, in compliance with COVID-19 quarantine guidelines.
Production line No. 5 at the Yeoju plant was first put into operation in August 2004. After operations were suspended in November 2018, cold repair work began in March 2021 and was completed in just three months, bringing the line back into operation.
The KCC Glass Yeoju plant, which began its first production in 1987, is equipped with a total of five production lines, including the No. 5 line now being restarted, and is currently Korea's largest glass plant, producing approximately 2,450 tons of glass per day. In 2004, it became the first in the world to install a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system for denitrification at a glass melting facility. It has continued its efforts to minimize the emission of hazardous substances, installing a Semi Dry Reactor (SDR) desulfurization system in 2015 and, in 2018, a state-of-the-art Ceramic Catalytic Bag Filter (CCBF) system with outstanding desulfurization and denitrification efficiency. In addition, the company is committed to practicing ESG management by operating power generation facilities that utilize waste heat as well as solar power generation facilities installed on plant buildings.
A KCC Glass official said, “The restart of production line No. 5 has made it possible to produce glass more stably,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to contribute to the development of Korea's glass industry through the stable supply of top-quality glass and eco-friendly production.”
Meanwhile, KCC Glass, which boasts Korea's largest production capacity for flat glass and coated glass, maintains an integrated production system from raw materials to finished products and has held the No. 1 market share in the domestic glass market.
