KRW 100 Billion Invested in the Expansion
Securing an Annual Production Capacity of 180,000 Tons
KCC (CEO Chung Jae-hoon) is adding a second production line (Unit 2) for glass wool, an inorganic insulation material, at its Gimcheon plant, strengthening its position as a leading company in eco-friendly, high-quality non-combustible insulation.
KCC announced that on August 31, at its Gimcheon plant located in the Gimcheon General Industrial Complex, it marked the start-up of the new glass wool Unit 2 by holding a power-on (energization) ceremony and a safety prayer service, wishing for accident-free and disaster-free operations. Some 50 people attended the event, including KCC Chairman Chung Mong-jin, CEO Chung Jae-hoon, executives and staff, and partner-company officials, and the program featured the energization of the electric resistance furnace and a tour of the line.
The newly added glass wool Unit 2 is the largest single production line in Korea, with an annual production capacity of approximately 48,000 tons, enabling the manufacture of about 160 tons of product per day. In particular, throughout this expansion KCC placed emphasis on practicing ESG management and explored various measures to build sustainable infrastructure. To realize its 2050 carbon neutrality goal, the company applied state-of-the-art electric resistance furnace equipment to improve energy efficiency and thoroughly protect the environment, and, as with Unit 1, installed a wet electrostatic precipitator (Wet-EP). This maximizes the removal efficiency of air pollutants generated at the plant, allowing operations that are more environmentally friendly than those of a conventional melting furnace.
The glass wool produced by KCC is a representative inorganic insulation material made by melting glass raw materials such as silica sand at high temperatures to produce inorganic fibers, which are then formed into a wool-like shape and molded into various forms including rolls, boards, panels, covers (insulation shells), and mats. Unlike organic insulation materials made from petrochemical raw materials, it does not emit pollutants and is characterized by outstanding insulation performance and non-combustibility.
