Joint agreement ceremony with the Ministry of Land, public institutions, nonprofits and others
KCC to provide some KRW 200 million worth of paint, windows and doors, non-combustible insulation and more
KCC (CEO Jung Jae-hoon) has continued its participation in the ‘Saetteul Village Project’ for a seventh year, a government-wide initiative overseen by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development, with the involvement of seven organizations including Habitat for Humanity Korea, working to improve the living environment of low-income households. Since 2018, KCC has taken part in the project, lending its support by supplying various eco-friendly building materials needed to improve the living conditions of some 900 households in total.
On February 20, at the Chungbuk Future Women’s Plaza in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, KCC held a ceremony to sign a business agreement for carrying out the 2024 project and to mark the completion of the 2023 project, attended by officials including Kim Ki-hoon, a director at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; Kim Jae-kyung, a director at the Presidential Committee for Balanced National Development; Shin Byung-dae, Vice Mayor of Cheongju; and Kim Sang-jun, an executive director at KCC. Following the renovation of a total of 116 aging homes last year in areas such as Seo-gu, Busan and Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, KCC plans this year to improve the living environment of around 200 aging homes selected through a public call for new target sites held at the end of February.
KCC is stepping up its support for vulnerable households by providing some KRW 200 million in donations and eco-friendly building materials to the 2024 Saetteul Village Project, as well as taking part in home renovation volunteer activities. Renovating aging homes using KCC’s key building materials—such as flame-retardant paint, high-efficiency windows and doors, and non-combustible glass wool insulation—greatly reduces the risk of fire. In addition, the improved energy efficiency of the buildings is expected to help cut heating and cooling costs, significantly improving living conditions for vulnerable households.
The Saetteul Village Project is a government-wide initiative that supports vulnerable areas left behind during the country’s rapid economic growth and expands living infrastructure such as safety and sanitation facilities in order to improve residents’ quality of life. Under the project, the government, public institutions, nonprofits and private companies work together to improve living infrastructure and support residents’ welfare in vulnerable residential areas, while also contributing to job creation by involving small local home-repair groups in the work.
