Sharing the outcomes of a residential environment improvement project in Angol Village, Dobong-gu
Senior choir, busking performances, and a variety of hands-on experience booths
KCC (CEO Chung Mong-jin) recently held its ‘Into the Warm Neighborhood Forest’ community festival in Angol Village, Dobong-gu, Seoul, together with local residents and related organizations, bringing it to a successful close.
The ‘Into the Warm Neighborhood Forest’ program is a local community revitalization initiative now in its fifth year. This community festival was organized to share and celebrate with local residents the achievements of ‘Into the Warm Neighborhood Forest,’ a low-rise residential environment improvement project that KCC carried out over the course of the year together with Dobong-gu, the Low-Rise Residential Regeneration Project Group, and ChildFund Korea, while fostering communication among the resident community.
On this day in Angol Village, performances took place against the backdrop of a mural painted with KCC’s eco-friendly paint ‘Supeuro.’ Invited artists such as Lee Song-mi and Redlow lifted the mood with their performances, and in particular, the senior choir performance—prepared over four months by the village’s elderly residents—drew the attention of the residents taking part in the festival.
Beginning last April with project discussions and planning together with related organizations, KCC has continued its social contribution activities in Angol Village to improve the residential environment and revitalize the community. Using KCC’s eco-friendly paint, murals were painted to breathe new life into the village, and various building materials such as windows and doors and thermal insulation were provided to renovate aging homes. KCC also supported community activities such as commercializing homemade fermented sauces and running a children’s cafeteria. In addition, recycled waste tires were used to create rest areas with lounge chairs in front of the village senior center and the mural.
A KCC official said, “Through this festival, we were able to share the rewards of this year’s ‘Into the Warm Neighborhood Forest’ program together with the residents of Angol Village,” adding, “The ‘Into the Warm Neighborhood Forest’ program is one of KCC’s flagship social contribution activities, and we will continue to help many of our neighbors by improving their residential environments going forward.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Into the Warm Neighborhood Forest’ program is an initiative aimed at improving poor low-rise residential areas within Seoul into safe and pleasant environments. Since 2018, the program has been carried out in Sangol Village in Eungam-dong, Eunpyeong-gu; Samtaegi Village in Sangwolgok-dong, Seongbuk-gu; Uri Village in Bukgajwa-dong, Seodaemun-gu; Gulcham Village in Nangok-dong, Gwanak-gu; and Angol Village in Dobong-dong, Dobong-gu.
