About 30 artists take part in Insubong Forest Trail Village
Recalling memories of the ‘village’ to raise interest in low-rise residential areas
An unusual event—an art contest using paint—was held. On June 22, KCC (CEO Jung Jae-hoon) joined hands with the ChildFund Korea (Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation) and the Low-Rise Residential Regeneration Project Group to hold the ‘Insubong Forest Trail Village Art Grand Contest,’ a creative activity using ‘KCC Sup-euro’ paint.
Held in the alleyways of ‘Insubong Forest Trail Village,’ this art contest saw 33 pre-registered artists take part and fully show off their talents. A diverse range of participants, including individuals active as artists, gathered to enjoy the novel experience of painting with paint and to spend a meaningful time reflecting on the ‘village.’
This art contest was held as part of ‘On(溫) Dongne Sup-euro,’ a public-private social contribution activity that improves aging low-rise residential environments. First launched in 2018, On Dongne Sup-euro is a project carried out through collaboration among local governments, private companies, and nonprofit organizations to transform low-rise residential areas within Seoul into safe and pleasant environments. It carries the meaning of warmly (溫) transforming the whole neighborhood using KCC’s ‘Sup-euro Paint’ and building materials. This year in particular, amid a trend in which residential culture is shifting toward apartments and villas, the fresh event of an art contest using KCC Paint ‘Sup-euro’ was planned to evoke memories of the ‘village’ and ‘low-rise residential areas’ and to raise interest in improving low-rise residential environments. KCC and the Low-Rise Residential Regeneration Project Group plan to hold an exhibition of the award-winning works from the art contest going forward, and to use some of the winning works as designs when painting the village’s old walls and creating murals together with village residents, children, and artists.
KCC expects that by using high-performance products such as KCC Sup-euro All-in-One when painting the walls of Insubong Forest Trail Village in the future, vivid colors will be maintained for a long time even against external conditions such as moisture and sunlight, allowing a bright and cheerful village atmosphere to continue.
A KCC official said, “Through the On Dongne Sup-euro activities that we have been continuing for seven years, we are striving to make low-rise residential villages brighter and more vibrant,” adding, “This year in particular, to raise interest in the village and further improve positive perceptions of low-rise residential areas, we held for the first time the unusual event of an art contest using KCC Paint ‘Sup-euro.’”
Meanwhile, as part of this year’s On Dongne Sup-euro activities, in addition to the art contest, KCC is also carrying out village community revitalization projects such as the ‘On Sup Big-Heart Children’s Kitchen,’ where local residents and children cook and share food together, and the ‘Embracing a Warm Heart’ festival, where village residents and artists come together. Previously, through the On Dongne Sup-euro project, KCC has carried out 128 murals, 11 residential environment improvements, and improvement works on shared community facilities across six areas—starting with Eungam Sangol Village in Eunpyeong-gu, followed by Samtaegi Village in Seongbuk-gu, Uri Village in Seodaemun-gu, Gulcham Village in Gwanak-gu, Angol Village in Dobong-gu, and Samdeok Village in Seongbuk-gu.
