'3-Coat PCM Non-Combustible Color-Coated Steel Sheet'
KG Steel (CEO Park Sung-hee) announced on the 16th that it has become the first in the industry to develop a '3-Coat PCM (Pre-Coated Metal) Non-Combustible Color-Coated Steel Sheet' that can be applied to interior materials for public facilities—such as subway stations—that must meet stringent non-combustibility standards. The new product has officially proven its quality by obtaining non-combustibility performance certification from the Korea Fire Protection Association's affiliated Fire Insurers Laboratories of Korea (FILK).
KG Steel's newly developed '3-Coat PCM (Pre-Coated Metal) Non-Combustible Color-Coated Steel Sheet' can deliver not only fire safety but also design quality that meets citizens' expectations, and its use is expected to expand across various indoor spaces such as subway station platforms, concourses, staircases, and corridors. The 'PCM Non-Combustible Color-Coated Steel Sheet' is a high-performance material that maintains a coating film thickness of less than about 30 micrometers (㎛)—roughly half the thickness of a human hair—while still achieving non-combustibility and a wide range of colors. By applying 3-coat technology, which adds a printing process and a clear coating to the conventional 2-coat method, it maintains non-combustibility performance while enabling more diverse patterns and colors, greatly broadening the range of design choices. Until now, 'liquid-painted steel sheet' has mainly been used in the market for interior materials for public facilities that require non-combustibility performance, but this method has the inconvenience of requiring the galvanized steel base sheet to be processed and then undergo a separate painting process. In contrast, the 'PCM Non-Combustible Color-Coated Steel Sheet' is supplied already coated, so it can be applied on-site immediately after processing, offering excellent features such as high price competitiveness and productivity while satisfying customers' diverse requirements.
A KG Steel official said, "As fire safety standards are strengthened, demand for non-combustible PCM products in the market for interior materials for public facilities is highly likely to grow," adding, "We will continue to develop new products that combine design, performance, and price competitiveness to strengthen KG Steel's differentiated competitiveness."
