LG Innotek showcased its latest distribution IoT (Internet of Things) solutions at 'K SHOP 2018,' a retail exhibition held at KINTEX in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province, from August 29 to 31. These are differentiated products that support efficient store management and convenient shopping.
'K SHOP' is Korea's largest specialized distribution exhibition, drawing around 150 companies and 8,000 industry professionals each year. Through its exhibited products and conferences, visitors can explore the latest distribution trends related to store construction and operation, e-commerce, and more.
At this year's 'K SHOP,' LG Innotek unveiled around 20 innovative products, including ESLs (Electronic Shelf Labels) with significantly improved usability, IoT wireless repeaters, RTLS (Real-time Location Solution), and temperature/humidity sensors.
In particular, LG Innotek presented its 'Remote Control-Integrated ESL' for the first time. This product allows product information resets, network connections, and other controls to be handled directly from the ESL terminal attached to the display shelf. Store staff no longer need to carry a separate remote control to operate the ESL, and the device is easy to attach to and detach from shelves, making it convenient to manage.
In addition, this ESL is the first product to apply a newly designed 'font dedicated to electronic price labels,' offering excellent Korean readability. It completely resolves the problem of ordinary fonts, in which certain consonants such as 'ㅁ' and 'ㅇ' appear similar on ESL screens. LG Innotek custom-developed the dedicated font together with a design firm earlier this year.
LG Innotek's IoT wireless repeater is a core device in distribution IoT solutions that controls communication among various in-store devices such as ESL terminals and temperature/humidity sensors. It is an 'all-purpose repeater' capable of using a variety of communication methods, including Zigbee, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and IR-UWB (Impulse Radio Ultra WideBand). A new model, scheduled to be installed at a major domestic hypermarket in the second half of this year, is on display.
LG Innotek's real-time location solution is an advanced product that accurately detects the location of people or products within a margin of error of about 40 cm. Attached to shopping carts, the device can analyze customer movement patterns, and mounted on display shelves, it can identify the location of products customers are looking for. The temperature/humidity sensor can be linked with heating and cooling systems to create a comfortable shopping environment and to help maintain product freshness.
Heo Seong, Executive Vice President in charge of the ESL Business, said, "Based on world-class wireless communication technology, we have actively reflected the needs of our distribution industry customers to develop a differentiated ESL-based IoT solution," adding, "It will become a core solution for intelligent retail stores."
