LG Hausys (CEO Min Kyung-jib) held an idea competition aimed at deepening understanding of and interest in memorial facilities and patriotic martyrs, and at carrying on the spirit of love for one's country.
In connection with this, LG Hausys and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs held the awards ceremony for the '4th Love for Country Space-Sharing Idea Competition' on October 4 at the Maeheon Yun Bong-gil Memorial Hall in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, attended by Seoul Regional Veterans Affairs Office Director Oh Jin-young, LG Hausys Korea Sales and Product Planning Officer Lim Seok-kyu, and LG Hausys model actor Lee Seo-jin, among others.
The 'Love for Country Space-Sharing Idea Competition' is an event in which LG Hausys and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, seeking to boost interest in memorial facilities and foster patriotism, invited elementary school students to submit their impressions of visiting memorial facilities, and invited middle school, high school, and university students as well as the general public to submit ideas for improving the spaces of memorial facilities.
The Maeheon Yun Bong-gil Memorial Hall, where this event took place, is a site where LG Hausys carried out renovation work in 2016 by providing materials such as system windows, aluminum windows, and PVC windows, adding even greater significance to the occasion.
In particular, unlike last year when the competition targeted elementary, middle, and high school students, this year's competition was expanded to allow university students and the general public to participate as well, in order to raise public interest in memorial facilities in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Provisional Government.
Out of 216 ideas submitted from early July to the end of August, a total of 33 winners were selected across the elementary, youth, and general divisions—including 3 Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Awards, 10 Gold Awards, and 20 Silver Awards—based on five judging criteria including the suitability of the theme and photos, originality, and feasibility.
The Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Award, the top prize in each division, went to: in the elementary division, Noh Kang-hoon (5th grade, Galwol Elementary School, Incheon), who wrote impressions after visiting the Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Hall, the Yun Dong-ju Literature Museum, the Wudang Memorial Hall, and the Baekbeom Kim Koo Memorial Hall; in the youth division, Kim Na-hyeon, Lee Su-min, and Kim Ga-ryun (1st year, Shinmyung High School, Daegu), who proposed directions for improving the facilities of the Shinmyung March 1st Movement Memorial Tower and the Gyonam YMCA History Hall; and in the general division, Hwang Jeong-eun (2nd year, Soongsil University), who proposed ideas for improving accessibility at the Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Hall and Baekbeom Square Park.
Going forward, LG Hausys and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs plan to carry out actual space-improvement projects for facilities where construction is feasible, after consultation with the relevant institutions, among the ideas selected through this competition.
Meanwhile, the awards ceremony also featured various hands-on activities such as a 'History O/X Quiz,' 'Coloring Postcards of Independence Activists,' and 'Making a Taegukgi with Handprints to Commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Provisional Government.' Actor Lee Seo-jin, who serves as an LG Hausys model, attended the awards ceremony again this year following last year and joined the participants.
LG Hausys Korea Sales and Product Planning Officer Lim Seok-kyu said, "This competition is highly significant in that it expanded the patriotic community-contribution activities LG Hausys has carried out—such as improving memorial facilities—so that everyone can take part," adding, "We will continue to pursue community-contribution activities that reflect on the patriotic spirit of our patriotic martyrs by leveraging our business capabilities."
