Four recipients selected in North Jeolla Province; support provided for windows, flooring, wallpaper and other materials
Four recipients selected, including Kook Jung-gwang, grandson of the late patriot Kook Dong-wan; construction completed
LG Hausys is continuing its patriotic social contribution activities by leveraging its business capabilities to support the renovation of homes belonging to descendants of independence patriots in North Jeolla Province.
The descendants of independence patriots selected this time total four people: Kook Jung-gwang, grandson of the late Kook Dong-wan, who carried out the independence movement in North Jeolla Province; Kim Dae-gyun, grandson of the late Kim Un-seo; Yeo Eun-seok, grandson of the late Yeo Gyu-mok; and Park Young-ja, child of the late Park Sun-young.
In early 1909, the late Kook Dong-wan led the independence movement by carrying out guerrilla activities alongside some 40 comrades in areas such as Buan, Gobu and Heungdeok in North Jeolla Province, while the late Kim Un-seo served as a raid captain of the Hanminhoe, an independence movement organization. The late Yeo Gyu-mok served as a central army commander in Lee Seok-yong's righteous army unit, and the late Park Sun-young reorganized the Unbong branch of the Namwon Youth Alliance and devoted himself to fostering independence activists, for which he was decorated as an independence patriot.
Together with the Heritage of Korean Independence, LG Hausys selected the recipients by comprehensively considering factors such as the age of the homes and the urgency of renovation among descendants of independence patriots. The company provided interior materials such as windows, flooring and wallpaper, and carried out the renovation work over two weeks beginning late last month, recently completing all of it.
Kook Jung-gwang, grandson of the late Kook Dong-wan, said, "I am grateful that a company is taking the lead in remembering independence activists and even their descendants, and in helping us live in a better environment."
Lee Dong-ju, executive vice president in charge of public relations and external cooperation at LG Hausys, said, "It is an honor to be able to provide support so that the descendants of independence movement families who devoted themselves to the country can live in an even slightly more comfortable environment," adding, "We will continue to carry out patriotic social contribution activities so that, by shedding new light on the efforts and activities of the independence heroes, their noble spirit of sacrifice is passed down to future generations."
Meanwhile, marking the 70th anniversary of the Korean War this year, LG Hausys has supported the renovation of the homes of three war veterans, and from 2015 to the present it has supported home environment improvement projects for a total of 33 persons of national merit, including descendants of independence patriots and Korean War veterans.
