Six products use recycled solid surface raw materials at over 10%, earning the ‘SCS Recycled Content Certification’
LG Hausys’ solid surface has been recognized for its use of recycled raw materials, earning eco-friendly certification from the U.S. international certification body ‘SCS Global Services (Scientific Certification Systems Global Services).’
Solid surface is an interior and exterior building material used everywhere from indoor spaces such as kitchens and bathrooms to building exteriors. LG Hausys’ solid surface ‘HI-MACS’ is an interior stone that overcomes the drawbacks of natural stone—an innovative architectural & interior material that combines durability, design freedom, and the practicality to be used in any interior or exterior space. In particular, it allows seamless fabrication to create designs with smoothly connected forms, and offers a rich range of colors while enabling a variety of visual effects depending on color, thickness, and light source. In addition, three-dimensional thermoforming is possible with simple heat treatment, and it can be easily fabricated without special equipment, making it easy to bring creative ideas to life.
Among these, a total of six products—three ‘HI-MACS Granite’ types and three ‘HI-MACS Volcanics’ types of LG Z:IN solid surface—have earned the ‘SCS Recycled Content Certification’ from the U.S.-based ‘SCS Global Services.’ ‘SCS Global Services’ is an international certification body in the fields of environment, sustainability, food quality certification, testing, and standards development, and it grants the eco-friendly ‘SCS Recycled Content Certification’ to products whose materials and goods contain at least 5% recycled content. All six of LG Hausys’ solid surface products use more than 10% recycled solid surface raw materials in their production process, successfully earning the ‘SCS Recycled Content Certification.’ In particular, the newly certified ‘HI-MACS Granite’ features around 40 different color chips, allowing a variety of moods to be created, and with its modern yet classic design, it is being applied widely across various spaces including kitchens. Meanwhile, ‘HI-MACS Volcanics’ is characterized by the large quartz chips it incorporates, capturing the feel of refined natural granite. As a result, it is mainly used in luxury residences and commercial spaces.
Kang Shin-woo, Executive Vice President and head of LG Hausys’ Surface Materials Business Division, said, “By earning the U.S. ‘SCS Recycled Content Certification,’ which is famous for being demanding, the eco-friendliness of LG Hausys’ solid surface products has been recognized,” adding, “Using this certification as a springboard, we will accelerate our push into the European market, where eco-friendly products made with recycled materials are valued and demand is high, while at the same time increasing our global market share.”
In addition, LG Hausys is enhancing consumer satisfaction by presenting a diverse range of ‘HI-MACS’ products. In particular, the ‘HI-MACS Concrete Collection’ applies a concrete design concept to solid surface, and demand is very high in residential and commercial spaces where exposing actual concrete structures is difficult. It is characterized by its ability to create the industrial interior effect that has been popular recently. The ‘HI-MACS Concrete Collection’ is offered in five styles—Urban, Steel, Chic, Shadow, and Ebony—with a wider variety of colors and patterns compared to actual concrete, allowing consumers to choose according to their taste. In addition, LG Hausys’ ‘HI-MACS Marmo’ is a highly workable interior marble that preserves the marble pattern of natural stone, characterized by natural stone–level color and soft marble patterns. ‘HI-MACS Neo Marmo,’ the successor pattern to ‘Marmo,’ conveys both the naturalness and elegance of natural marble, offering a modern interpretation of a raw, rugged feel and the marble’s distinctive texture. ‘HI-MACS Lucent’ enhances interior effects with its high light transmittance, and by utilizing the differences in transmittance that vary with thickness, it can create dramatic and fantastical special spaces. ‘HI-MACS Lucia,’ with a design inspired by grains, led design innovation in solid surface products by presenting the cool-toned ‘HI-MACS Lucia Queen Series,’ which incorporates the emotional interpretation of world-renowned industrial designer Marcel Wanders through a collaboration with him.
Meanwhile, LG Hausys currently holds a share in the low-to-mid 20% range in the global acrylic solid surface market, ranking second after DuPont of the U.S. 080-005-4000
