‘METALEPSIS’ First Domestic Exhibition
Ongru, which operates the artist platform ‘Pictorium,’ is holding a solo exhibition by Mr Misang at the Lee Kwang-hee Boutique in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, through January 15.
Serving as a prologue to an exhibition introducing Mr Misang, one of Korea’s top NFT artists, the show is titled ‘METALEPSIS’ and unfolds Mr Misang’s storytelling about an age of excess meaning. Standing at the exquisite midpoint between the virtual and the real, the artist’s perception and expression evoke the ‘dimensional shifts’ seen in science fiction content.
The artist Mr Misang works under a pseudonym that, true to its name, carries the meaning of ‘artist unknown,’ and began his career as an NFT artist in earnest in early 2021. In the first half of 2021, one of his works sold for 200 ETH (about 490 million won) on the NFT art platform SuperRare—the highest price for a Korean artist—and he is credited with raising the profile of NFT art in Korea.
His work has a distinctive worldview, humorously depicting the lives of modern people set mainly in a dystopian world, and his ‘Modern life is rubbish’ series is especially well known.
This exhibition takes on the character of a prologue to a show to be held early this year, serving as a format to introduce Mr Misang’s artistic world to domestic collectors.
Given the nature of NFT art, all works are presented through LED displays. They will be exhibited across roughly 80 LED digital frames of various sizes, with the displays sponsored by Carmel.
Meanwhile, Ongru, which planned and organizes this exhibition, operates Pictorium, an artist platform where domestic painters and NFT artists sign up and are active. Pictorium provides artists with art-market trends and runs various support programs for their artistic activities.
