Choose and Purchase Doors, Walls and Lighting

Hyundai Elevator has announced that its ‘Elevator VR Simulation Platform,’ developed to expand customers’ design choices, has won in the Interactive Media category of the ‘Good Design USA Award 2023.’
When users access the web-based platform, they can start by selecting an elevator model and then freely choose the doors, buttons and floor indicators, as well as the interior materials and colors, flooring and lighting, applying them in virtual reality (VR). The number of possible design combinations reaches a remarkable 13.68 million or so. In particular, users can rotate the view a full 360 degrees—up, down, left and right—to examine both the interior and exterior of the elevator, allowing them to experience a space similar to the product that will actually be installed.
An official from Hyundai Elevator’s Design Research Center said, “In the past, customers relied on the flat images in catalogs when making purchase decisions, so there were cases where they felt a difference from the product that was actually installed,” adding, “By applying rapidly evolving VR technology, customers can now select designs to suit their tastes and make purchase decisions more easily through virtual experiences.”
At this year’s awards, the ‘Elevator VR Simulation Platform’ was praised for ‘an intuitively designed layout that allows even general users to grasp at a glance the various types of elevator components.’ It was also recognized for its high accessibility, as it can be freely accessed via the Hyundai Elevator website on laptops, smart devices and more.
